Jesus, the ‘Mould-Buster’

Our new place is closer to nature (which I love), but it comes with a cost. The level of humidity is a lot higher resulting in the rapid growth of mould.

We’ve had to be diligent in certain things such as running the de-humidifier regularly, drying the toilets, and letting the pillows bask in the lovely sun every once in a while.

We are now on the look out for mould – but not obsessing over it. If it comes, we just whip out our trusty mould busting spray, and destroy its existence.

I pondered on the experience of being a mould-buster, and thought about sin. In a world where the devil tries to mask the existence of sin, the effects of the lack of diligence – or even admittance – towards the reality of sin, are seen through the evil and suffering in this world (think mould growing rapidly).

Because of the Fall from the beginning, we are easily tempted to sin (think high humidity). We really ought to admit that! It is only in admitting that, that our eyes can be opened to see the weakness of our human nature. It is only then that we can we ask for help!

Jesus left for us the gift of Himself through the Sacraments, exactly because He knew the weakness of our human nature. In His tender voice, He simply says, “Come to me..” and He will wipe away the sin that is built up in our souls (think busting the mould!).

The Sacrament of Confession is where we can meet Him intimately, and tell Him all of the sins that we have committed, and all that we struggle with. Then He can do what He so desires to do – to pour and lavish us with the grace and love that He has for us, so that we may be made clean in Him.

In the Eucharist, He gives us His body and blood, soul and divinity. We receive Him and enter into Him – who is the Light with no darkness – and He purifies us with His blood. Not only does He ‘bust the mould’, when He dwells in us, He changes the condition of our soul (think lowering the humidity)!

When we are One with Him and dwell with Him constantly, it is easier to grow in virtue and turn away from vice (think mould being unhappy that this environment sucks!) We are mindful and alert, not letting the devil have its opportunity (think maintaining the low level of humidity).

So wait no longer! Run to Jesus and let Him be Your ‘mould-buster’! Run straight into His loving arms! Go for confession, and receive Him in the Eucharist!

God is light; there is no darkness in him at all. If we live our lives in the light, as he is in the light, we are in union with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” – 1 John 1:5,7
