Our words are like a double-edged sword.
At one end of the sword, we are given a choice.
To hurt a soul, or to stab the devil.
If we were too quick to thrust our sword,
It is time to consider the practice of silence.
Withhold our weapons, slow down and ponder.
Think twice before we attack!
Implore the help of Our Lady,
And with the help of grace,
We can certainly train our wills to do good.
What now of the damage that was done?
If we choose to ignore it, the sword remains.
An insincere apology will rip the sword out,
Causing blood to gush out from an open wound.
Approach with a humble and contrite heart,
And slowly, remove the sword.
Apply pressure to the wound of the heart,
Wait patiently for the bleeding to cease.
At the other end of the sword,
We threaten to hurt own hearts.
We fall for the lies of the devil,
And think we deserve the stab.
But God’s gentle voice tells us,
“Do not hurt yourself, my Beloved.”
He holds out His hand and asks for the sword.
Yes! We can surrender it to Him.
Our hand on His, we wield the sword.
We stab the devil with great accuracy,
And leave our neighbours unhurt.
