My little toddler finished his meal and did what he loves to do. He stood by the door of his grandparents’ room and with a bright smile on his face, he beckoned them with his hands as he said, “Grandma, grandpa, come!” He loves spending time together in their room. He would sit in-between them to play with his little wooden trucks.
My parents were not finished with their meal, but their hearts were moved and with a smile back, they told him to wait. He stood there waiting excitedly for the longest time. He did not wail nor attempt to pull them away from the table, he just waited.
My little one, who is turning two in less than a month, had such a great confidence in the love of his grandparents. He knew that they would come, and he did not need to do anything to speed up this desire that he had within him.
Our Lord’s said, “Ask and it will be give you, search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches find, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Let us think about the favours that we have asked from our Lord and think about how we have made them. Is there wilfulness in our asking? Perhaps we might even need to consider where our desires are coming from. Are they coming from God or our imperfect sensual self?
We ask for patience – in waiting, in loving ourselves and our neighbour. Blessed Mother, teach us your patience. Your life on earth was filled with waiting! Teach us your surrender and trust in our Good God, and help us to desire what God desires, at every moment of our lives.
