After moving to our new place, I had to familiarise myself with the new kitchen. The children were anxious to cook with me once again but I did not feel confident in this new environment. I asked for their understanding to allow me to take a few days to figure things out, and soon I was able to cook simple meals for the family. Recently, I invited the children into the kitchen for the first time. I recalled what they were capable of doing, and delegated the tasks according to their skill levels.
To go before others, we must first rise up to the challenge to learn what is required of us. We need to try, fumble and finally, problem solve, in order to get better at what we do. In this case, I had to create a flow in the new kitchen, learn how to use the appliances, and switch things around when I felt like work could have been done in a better way.
It is the same with our spiritual life. We need to try, fumble, and problem solve in order to advance in our spiritual life. What we must never forget is that we are never alone in this journey. To make mistakes is part of learning, and we must not remain in the state of shame when we fall.
When we try to be good, our loving Father looks at us with eyes of mercy.
When we fumble, He calls us back through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
When we problem solve, He sends us graces in physical and spiritual ways to aid us.
Yes, the greatest gift for this journey, One that feeds our body and soul, is God Himself.
Jesus, whose body and blood, soul and divinity, is made present in the form of the Blessed Sacrament.
Let us ask for courage to approach our Good God with confidence. We ask for the grace to persevere, that we may love Jesus more and more everyday. Blessed Mother, hide us under your mantle from the lies of the devil. We implore you to bring us close to the heart of Christ. May we be engulfed in His love!
Until next time~
Melissa
